Keeping your house healthy and clean helps you recover quicker.

Keeping your house healthy and clean helps you recover quicker.

Why keeping your house clean is important?

It is winter here in Sydney and who means winter means cold, runny nose, kids sick and bringing viruses home right!

Since we have a bit more to go with the cold season we thought we might share some tips for you to keep your house clean and "germs free" (as much as possible).

First of all, did you know that keeping your house clean helps avoid allergies or others breathing problems?
Most important is that keeping your house clean avoids the spread of germs. And that is what we want right! Especially after what happened last year with Covid-19.

Here are a few tips to keep your house clean and healthy:

1) Vent your home for at least 10-15min every day (I would say, the longer the better). It will allow the air to circulate and helps get rid of some of indoor air pollution. You don't have to open all windows at the same time. Start with one room, keeping the rest of the house closed then rotate.

When one of us at home is sick, I personally vent the bedroom for 30 min (at least) and remove all bedding to vent the bed as well. If you have a balcony or some outdoor space, letting your bedding vent outside for as long as you can is even better.

2) Vacuum the room regularly, to help get rid of dust and germs. I like to add few drops of Tea tree oil (Lemon scented) on a cotton pad and leave it in my vacuum cleaner to eliminate the smell of dust.

3) If there is carpet in your bedroom you can give it a quick clean using natural products: mix in bowl 10-15 drops of Lemon scented Tea tree essential oil with 2 cups of baking soda. Sprinkle on the carpet, let it sit for a few minutes then vacuum. It is safe for children and pets as it doesn't contain harmful volatile compounds found in commercial carpet cleaners! Pretty cool hey!

4) Use linen spray on bedding and around the house. We like making our own one by blending Eucalyptus and Tea tree oil in a spray water bottle.

Try it and you will feel the freshness it brings to your room.

Why the choice of those two essential oils? Tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties and helps with sinusitis and other cold symptoms. Eucalyptus is also known for its disinfecting properties as well as its refreshing scent. Eucalyptus is your best ally to help relieve congestions and other cold symptoms.

 5) Once the room is clean and all windows closed, I like switching on our ultrasonic diffuser where I usually blend:

  • 3 drops of French Lavender oil for its relaxing and soothing properties
  • 4 drops of Australian Tea Tree oil, Lemon scented, for its antibacterial properties

Doing the above steps and cleaning your place regularly when someone is sick will prevent the germs to get transmitted and helps the person recover quicker.

Always remember:
A clean and organised home keeps away the stress,
A clean and organised home keeps improve productivity and happiness :)

Stay safe everyone and take care <3
